How did you become a small business marketing expert?

It’s actually a story that has its roots in the hotel industry. Prior to starting my own business, I invested over 15 years in the hotel/hospitality business. The last ten of those years, I was a Director of Sales and Marketing. While I liked sales and was pretty good at it, I really enjoyed the marketing part. I had lots of great marketing ideas. The problem was our corporate structure was geared more on the sales end and less on the marketing end. We never had a great marketing budget to properly market the hotel. Everything was about sales, sales, and more sales! The marketing campaigns we did do were never properly measured to show ROI and prove the stuff worked. I knew there was something missing. I became bored making sales calls, managing a staff, producing reports and having my marketing ideas fall on deaf ears.

At about the same time, my sister, a graphic designer was working out of her home, and mentioned wanting to expand her business. Then, it dawned on me—with her creative ability and my sales and marketing background, we had a perfect match! We immediately came up with a plan to work as a team and create a graphic design AND marketing business.

That was in 1997. Since that time our business has changed to reflect the needs of the small to medium size business community. While we still offer graphic design services (an essential part of your marketing message and branding) and promotional products (another necessary part of marketing your business), our marketing services have expanded from one-on-one custom marketing systems consulting to automated marketing programs.

These automated marketing programs are just what small businesses need to market themselves consistently when they do not have the staffing or the time to get marketing done themselves.

What kind of clients have you worked with?

To further increase my knowledge in the marketing world, I read countless books each year, invest thousands of dollars each year attending seminars and workshops, and coaching and mastermind programs. I love all things marketing and being able to help small businesses.
