Virtual dental care may seem like a silly concept. How can you possibly do dentistry via video conference? 

Let’s see how we CAN utilize it to your benefit!

Virtual dental care can be very helpful in certain cases, such as:

  • Assessment
  • Pre-appointment questions/consultations
  • Education
  • Pain relief recommendations
  • Triage
  • Follow-up care and supervision

Not only is this offering a convenient service for your patients, but it would save you the time and money of having them come into the office! This will also provide a safer environment for you and your other patients by limiting the number of people coming to the office during this COVID-19 pandemic and into the future.

But what about fees and insurance? Great question! You can certainly bill for this service. There are insurance codes for teledentistry and you can bill fees for your service.

We do know that certain states may not allow virtual care, but if we think outside of the box, we can still utilize this service that is certainly in high demand these days.

Even if you are not using it as a billable dental service, this technology can still be a great sales tool to convert that potential prospect to a new patient.

What if you offered a complimentary meeting? You could schedule a 10-minute video chat, find out what they are looking solve, and reassure them that your office is a safe environment and you would be happy to schedule a full exam to further investigate their situation. Wouldn’t you be impressed if your doctor got on a call to personally understand your situation and provide helpful answers before you scheduled an in-person visit? They get to know you and feel more comfortable with you, you get a new patient, and it only cost you 10 minutes of your time. WIN-WIN!

This will certainly set you apart from your competitors!

Not only will you be offering patients a convenient and safe service, but you will also stand out on Google!

A new feature on Google My Business is that you can now highlight your virtual care link on your GMB profile on mobile devices. This is huge! You may even be the only one in your area offering it, which will certainly be a major benefit because your listing may show up higher in search!

Not sure what equipment or app to use for teledentistry?

Many services are available, but Google offers a HIPAA-compliant option with Google Meet through G Suite.

Adapting to changes around COVID-19 will keep patients connected to you, even if it’s not in the chair at your office. The tools are there for you; you just have to find what works best for you and let patients know about it.

Some other important items on your GMB profile to make sure are up-to-date are your hours (which may have changed post-COVID), and links to schedule an appointment and COVID information on your website.

And don’t forget to update your link in your “info” tab in GMB for virtual care!
