Chances are, you watch at least one video online each day. Whether it’s on YouTube, scrolling through your Facebook feed, or on news websites, watching videos is how many of us get our information. Figuring out how to use videos to promote your practice—determining what topics to discuss and how to get them online—can be a challenge, but, after reading this, you will be well on your way!

What topics can I use?

Frequently Asked Questions

You probably have patients asking you the same, or at least similar, questions all the time. These kinds of questions are great topics for videos. All you have to do is turn on the computer camera, or even your phone’s camera, and answer the questions you get asked about the most.

Introduction Video

A great way to make your prospective patients feel more comfortable is for them to get to know you and your practice. Creating a video where you talk about yourself, introduce your staff and do a brief tour of the office can make a patient feel like they know you even before scheduling their first appointment!

Testimonials make for great videos; in fact, we create videos using our client’s testimonials all the time (be sure to contact us if you would like to learn more about that)! I’m sure you know how important positive reviews are for your practice, and these reviews don’t need to be limited to the place where they were first posted. Turn your outstanding five-star reviews into videos you can post and share.

Entertaining Videos

Your videos should not focus solely on dentistry; you should have videos that are fun and lighthearted. Some great examples of this include:

  • Celebrating the doctor’s or an employee’s birthday
  • Announcing contest winners
  • Charitable events (remember the ALS ice bucket challenge?)
  • **Extra points if you include animals or babies in your videos—people love that!**

Where do I post my videos?

The next step is to put these videos online for potential patients to view. The most popular platform for videos is YouTube. All you need is a Google account and you will be able to create a YouTube channel for your practice. Then begin uploading your videos there. Your videos can, and should, also be uploaded to your practice’s Facebook page. Videos are a top priority for Facebook right now. Videos not only have the highest reach, but these videos will be saved on your page for anyone to view at a later date.

How do I get my videos on YouTube and Facebook?

  • Login using your Google account
  • Click on the arrow in the upper right corner
  • Click on the arrow above the “select files to upload”
  • Select your video Fill out the information (title, description, etc.)
  • “Publish”

  • On your practice’s Facebook page, click on the box that says “Write something…”
  • Under the text box, click on the camera icon (it should be the first icon).
  • Select the video you want to publish
  • Put a title on your video
  • “Publish”

Do I need a video camera?

A lot of dentists may think they need to spend money on professional equipment but that’s not the case. You can simply use your smartphone’s camera or the webcam on your computer to record a quick video. Don’t make this a major project; using your phone or computer is plenty!

How long do my videos need to be?

(Hint: Keep them short!) It can be hard to keep people’s attention, which means you’ll want to keep videos short and sweet! Your videos should generally be between 1–2 minutes.

Now you can start publishing videos! If you would like to learn more about video marketing and how your practice can use it, be sure to Get in Touch.
